Unlock92 Ransomware and Unlock92 2.0 Ransomware are two dangerous pieces of malware that can encrypt your files and demand a ransom for their return.

Protection

The best way to protect yourself from Unlock92 and Unlock92 2.0 is to use a reliable anti-malware program that can detect and remove these pieces of malware before they have a chance to encrypt your files. Additionally, you should always have a backup of your important files so that you can recover them if they are ever encrypted by ransomware. Finally, you should NEVER open attachments or click on links in emails unless you are sure that they are safe. Unlock92 Ransomware and Unlock92 2.0 Ransomware are usually spread that way.

History

Unlock92 Ransomware was first discovered in May 2017.It is a variant of Locky Ransomware, which is one of the most prolific pieces of malware in existence. Unlock92 works by encrypting a victim's files with AES-256 encryption and then appending the ".unlock92" extension to the encrypted files. Once the files have been encrypted, Unlock92 will display a ransom note that instructs victims on how to pay the ransom and decrypt their files.Sadly, there is no way to decrypt files that have been encrypted by this virus without paying a ransom. The only alternative is to restore your files from a backup, but this will only be possible if you have one.Unlock92 2.0 Ransomware is a variant of Unlock92 that was first discovered in July 2017. It works in the same way as Unlock92, but it uses a different ransom note and appendage. With Unlock92 2.0, victims will see the ".unlock92_2" extension added to their encrypted files. The ransom note for Unlock92 2.0 is also different, but it still instructs victims on how to pay the ransom and decrypt their files.Just like with Unlock92, there is no way to decrypt files that have been encrypted by Unlock92 2.0 without paying the ransom.

Ransom payment

The Unlock92 Ransomware will demand that victims pay a ransom of 0.5 Bitcoin, which is currently equivalent to about $2,800. While Unlock92 2.0 will demand that victims pay a ransom of 1 Bitcoin, which is currently equivalent to about $5,600.Furthermore, it is important to note that Unlock92 and Unlock92 2.0 are both still active and in circulation. This means that there is a very real possibility that you could become a victim of one of these pieces of malware.

What can you do in case of Unlock92 or Unlock92 2.0 infection?

If you do find yourself in the unfortunate position of being infected with Unlock92 or Unlock92 2.0 Ransomware, then you should not pay the ransom. There is no guarantee that you will get your files back even if you do pay, and you would simply be giving the attackers more money to continue their operations.Instead, as we mentioned before, your best bet is to try torestore your files from a backup. But, if you don't have a backup, then you can try using data recovery software. There are many different programs out there that claim to be able to recover files encrypted by Unlock92 Ransomware and Unlock92 2.0, but we cannot guarantee that all of them will work.Anyway, SalvageData data recovery software has a success rate, so it is worth a try.It is important to know that this software can only work if you have not been infected with any other ransomware or malware.

Public decryption tools

Unfortunately, at this time there are no public decryption tools available for Unlock92 Ransomware and Unlock92 2.0 Ransomware.
